The museum has been under-construction for almost three years in order to house its expanded collection, which will now feature pieces from the 1,100-piece Doris and Donald Fisher Collection and many others. The expansion of the building, which has been helmed by architecture firm Snøhetta, has been a boon for the museum — the fund-raising campaign that coincided with the expansion drummed up $610 million, which not only covers construction costs, it triples the museum’s endowment.
The museum also commissioned commemorative jewelry for its reopening, which will be sold in the museum’s store. Three architects and one industrial designer conceived the collection, which was inspired by the new look of the museum, and will cost between $55 to $750 per piece.
