Visiting San Francisco’s de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor will cost more starting in July.
The board that oversees the two nationally prominent art institutions, collectively known as the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF), announced price hikes for adult admission from $10 to $15 on Tuesday after the board approved the increase.
The senior rate will rise from $7 to $10.
A spokeswoman for the museum says making some patrons pay more will actually get more people in for free. Teenagers under 18 pay $6 now, but won’t pay anything come July 1.
Admission will continue to be free on Friday nights and the first Tuesday of every month.
The news comes in the wake of the announcement of pricing increases at the soon-to-reopen San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), where the price of adult admission will increase to $25 when the museum reopens on May 14.
SFMOMA also announced free admission to patrons under the age of 18.
