Just a few months ago, Gallery Wendi Norris announced they’d be closing their SOMA location to focus on presenting shows in off-site locations around the world. If I Were a Poet is the first manifestation of that new programming model, a solo show of three decades of work by Cuban-born, Boston-based artist María Magdalena Campos-Pons in the Presidio National Park. Her work is largely autobiographical, addressing her Afro-Cuban ancestry in large-format Polaroids, installation and performance. It’s a special treat for the Bay Area, because even though Campos-Pons has exhibited all over the world, this is her very first West Coast show. On view Jan. 11-28, details here.
